From earliest times our parish has been an agricultural area and its main character still remains the extensive surrounding farmland. We are a parish in Northumberland, located some 3 miles northeast of Alnwick, 34 miles north of Newcastle and within 4 miles of the coast. Parish boundaries extend to Embleton Mill in the East, just crossing over the A1 to the West, extending almost to Charlton Mires in the north and to Silvermoor Farm in the south.
Within the parish we have two main villages – Rennington and Rock – as well as two further settlements – Stamford and Broxfield. We have two churches – Church of St Philip and St James in Rock and All Saints Church in Rennington. We are also fortunate to have Rennington Village Hall – a charitable trust for the benefit of local residents – as well as the Horseshoes Inn – a traditional family-run village pub dating from 1841.
Rennington Parish Council has 10 councillor seats representing the parish. Occasionally, vacancies become available, and residents are encouraged to contact the Clerk if they’d like to get involved.
Meetings are usually held in Rennington Village Hall on a Thursday evening starting at 7pm and lasting about one hour. Our most common topics are planning matters, highways issues, managing open spaces and being a voice for our communities. It’s true to say that the Parish Council has limited powers – but we are able to negotiate with, and influence, those organisations that make the final decisions. To help us meet your needs within the parish please email your issues and questions and/or come to our meetings whenever you can.
